The spine has three main sections, cervical, thoracic, and lumbar. There are seven cervical vertebrae (C1-C7), twelve thoracic (T1-T12), and five lumbar (L1-L5). In addition, there are two fused vertebrae, the sacrum and the coccyx. The twelve thoracic and five lumbar vertebrae make up the thoracolumbar spine. The cervical spine supports the head and allows anterior, posterior, and lateral flexion and extension, plus rotation of the head and neck. C2, called the axis, forms a pivot with C1, called the atlas, around which the head rotates on the cervical spine. Normal curvature is lordotic (eyes pointing up). The thoracolumbar spine (T1-L5) has two normal curvatures, lordotic in the lumbar region and kyphotic in the thoracic region. The primary spinal functions are to maintain an erect posture, provide stability and mobility, transmit loads, absorb shocks, and protect the spinal cord.

  • Fiber Contents70% Plastic foam, 20% Polypropylene, 10% Nylon
  • Color: Beige

Hoe to wear:

  • Measure around the patient's neck. If the patient's measurement falls between two consecutive sizes, try on the larger size first. After selecting the proper size collar, apply the collar to patient's neck. The chin should be resting on the molded chin support. Before attaching the Velcro® strap, make sure the patient's head and the collar are in neutral position.
  • If patient is in a supine position, slide the back part of the collar behind the patient's neck until the Velcro® strap is visible.
  • Pull the Velcro® strap from the back and secured it to the Velcro hook fastener on the side of the collar. If the chin is not sufficiently supported tighten collar. If additional tightening results in hyperextension of patient's cervical spine, select a smaller.

Application:

  • Ligamentous injuries
  • Mild and lower cervical strain and sprain
  • Soft tissue injury
